Space for over 200 cars, this was the largest and the last vessel that Union Company operated in Wellington-Lyttelton ferry service. When service ceased in 1976, RANGATIRA returned to England. She was chartered by the British Government for service during the Falkland War in 1982. After long periods laid up she was finally broken up.
